How to choose
- Read the length printed on your rod, just above the handle. That is your size: a rod printed 6 ft 6 inches takes 6–7 ft.
- Right on a line? Take the smaller size: a 7 ft rod takes 6–7 ft; 7 ft 2 inches takes 7–8 ft.
- Optional check: with the reel on, measure from the rod tip to the reel seat and compare it with the sleeve length. The sleeve covers that part, not the handle.
Rod sleeve sizing FAQs
What if my rod is between sizes?
The sizes don't overlap, so every rod from 5 to 9 ft has one size. If your rod is exactly on a line, such as exactly 7 ft, choose the smaller size (6–7 ft).
Why is the sleeve shorter than my rod?
The sleeve covers the tip, blank and guides down to the reel seat, and leaves the reel and handle out. That's why the 7–8 ft size is a 72-inch sleeve.
Can I leave my reel on?
Yes. The sleeve slides on tip first while the rod is rigged and stops at the reel seat, so the reel stays on. It fits spinning and baitcast rods.
Will it fit over large guides?
The 4.33-inch opening clears large guides on spinning and baitcast rods. Some newer spinning rods have a very large first guide, and heavy stand-up rods can have a very thick butt. If that sounds like your rod, email us before you order.
Does it fit 2-piece rods?
Put together, a 2-piece rod sizes like any other rod, so use the chart. Broken down, the two sections (often 4.5–5 ft each) can share one 5–6 ft sleeve side by side. Very large guides on 9–12 ft 2-piece surf rods won't fit through the opening.
My rod is longer than 9 ft. Which size?
The 8–9 ft sleeve is the largest size, so no sleeve covers a one-piece rod over 9 ft.
